But why don’t you think about using the photos uploaded into your Media Library as the avatar? It will be cool. This post will help to upload WordPress user avatar without using Gravatar.
Upload WordPress user avatar without Gravatar
First thing you need to do is to install & activate the WP Avatar plugin.
- Upload the plugin files to the /wp-content/plugins/wp-avatar/ directory, or install the plugin through the WordPress plugins screen directly.
- Activate the plugin through the Plugins screen in WordPress.
Now visit Dashboard > Users.
On the edit user screen, scroll down to the bottom, you will see the Upload Avatar section. You can click on Choose Image button to upload the user avatar.
Don’t forget to click on Update profile button to save your changes.
Users on your WordPress site can be to upload their photos by editing their user profile.
You can change that and allow contributors and subscribers as well. Visit Settings > Discussion and click on Allow anyone can upload avatar.
Click on Save Changes button to save all settings.
Now visit your website to see the plugin in action.
It will start showing local avatar as author photo for the articles. If a user does not add an author photo, it will show their Gravatar image.
